One Book
The folks at the watering hole across town were tagged with the book list several days ago. I have loved reading ever since I was old enough to know how. According to my mother, I don’t read books - I swallow them. I will try to keep each answer to one, but I’m not promising anything.
1. One book that changed your life:
- Phillip Yancey - What’s So Amazing About Grace?
2. One book that you have read more than once:
Oh, my. Too many to count. But these have been read 6+ times each:
- Charlotte Bronte - Jane Eyre
- Paul Maier - The Flames of Rome
- Paul Maier - The Skeleton in God’s Closet
- Ravi Zacharias - Recapture the Wonder
3. One book you would want on a desert island:
Or two. Or three:
- The Bible
- Brian Jacques - the Redwall series
- Phillip Yancey - Reaching for the Invisible God
4. One book that made you laugh:
- Anything by Dave Barry
5. One book that made you cry:
- John Gunther - Death Be Not Proud
6. One book that you wish had been written:
- Not sure on this one yet, but it has something to do with how many angels danced on the head of a pin while God decided whether or not to give Adam a belly button.
7. One book that you wish had never been written:
- Phillip Pullman - His Dark Materials series (The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife, The Amber Spyglass). I don’t necessarily have an issue with fantasy series that are clearly antagonistic towards God and Christianity - as long as it’s understood that the intended audience is that of adults. What absolutely irks me about this series is that it is marketed towards junior/senior high students.
8. One book you are currently reading:
I never have less than 3 books going at the same time. Currently:
- Stanley J. Grenz - Women in the Church: A Biblical Theology of Women in Ministry
- Elizabeth Peters - The Serpent on the Crown
- Dallas Willard - The Spirit of the Disciplines
9. One book you have been meaning to read:
- Robert Farrar Capon - The Astonished Heart
